Artists village. Bussana Vecchia
More Photos
My stone built house in BV, the unique artists medieval village overlooking the sea on one side and the foothills of the Italian Alpes on the other, has large light rooms with vaulted ceilings and tiled floors. With both mountain and sea air, legend has it that Bussana Vecchia is so called because it is built on the site of a Roman Villa which was called 'Bissana.' (Twice healthy). Nice airport is an hour away by car, Monte Carlo half an hour. Genoa's new airport with Ryan Air flights as low as ?15 is about an hour and half. There are good beaches a mile away and 15 to 20 minutes drive inland brings you to age old forests, chestnut groves, ruined castles and villages perched precariously among olive groves. Railway station and motorway (3 km). San Remo, Casino and night life (8km). Bussana Vecchia rebuilt by International Artists attracted media interest. BBC TV&Radio. Associated Press.TV. Daily Express. The Independent and New York Times.
Meadow at entrance of village with swing and slide for children to play, overlooked by a vine grown terrace of the bar restaurant, where parents can keep an eye on them while having a drink or meal. Bring a torch.

If you are driving from Nice. Go past San Remo on the autostrada. Come off at the next exit Arma di Taggia. If from Genoa come off at Arma di Taggia before San Remo. In either case turn back towards San Remo. Go across the traffic lights in Arma and through the tunnel. The sea is on your left. Go past the hospital on your right. Appx 100.meters after the pedestrian bridge across the Aurelia and the bus stop by the hotel Locarno. Turn right, just before the GS supermarket. Follow the road through the new villiage and sign posts to Bussana Vecchia. At the entrance of Bussana Vecchia, having parked your car, take the left hand cobbled street. Follow it right, under the arches. Do not turn into any of the bisecting streets. Follow it right under another arch. The church is in front of you. The entrance to my house is on your left. A carved Mahogany door and a Pillar.
