Curacao Vacation Fun Facts
Curacao Rentals By Owner
Curacao, an island in the southern Caribbean, is well-known for two things – being outside of the typical Caribbean hurricane zone and for being surrounded by some of the world’s most gorgeous coral reefs. What does that mean? It means the perfect destination for your next vacation rental! Warm tropical weather and beautiful, colorful scenery are the ideal backdrop for a vacation in paradise. For snorkelers, it doesn’t get any better than Curacao. What makes diving and snorkeling around Curacao so exciting is because of what’s known locally as the "blue edge." This is where the sea floor dramatically drops within just feet of the shore. You can see some stunning underwater scenery without the hassle of having to rent a boat! If you’d rather snorkel in a more controlled environment, be sure and pay a visit to the Sea Aquarium. Their Animal Encounters Adventure gives visitors the chance to swim in an enclosure with lots of colorful fish. You even get a bucket full of fish so you can do some up close and personal feeding with the fish – all through the safety of a fence, of course! To get a feel for a little of Curacao’s history, stop by Fort Amsterdam. This fort, originally built in 1634, was intended to protect the Caribbean Netherland Antilles (excluding Aruba). For a great souvenir photo, be sure and look for the cannonball lodged in the outer wall of the Fort Church! For a great view of the scenic island, hike up Mount island against invading pirates. Now the building serves as the current seat of government for all of the Christoffel, the island’s highest point at 1,239 feet. The mountain is located within Christoffelpark, a national park that is in the northwest area of the island. Christoffelpark is home to the remains of three separate plantations, not to mention countless varieties of flora and fauna. Some of these plants are extremely rare, including the Lady of the Night orchid and the Myrcia Curassavica, which only appears in the Christoffelpark area. Plenty of islands natives show their faces in this gorgeous park, too, including the White-tailed Hawk, Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, and Barn Owls. So stroll along the colorful streets of Punda or visit the casinos of Otrobunda. Or, if you can’t decide, go back and forth between the two on the Queen Emma Bridge, also known by the locals as "The Swinging Old Lady." Curacao will capture your heart during your Caribbean island vacation! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
