Vienna Vacation Rentals and Lodging

As the capital city of Austria, Vienna draws many tourists every year. The main tourist sights of Vienna include the sprawling, yellow castle Schonbrunn Palace, the Spanish Riding School, the oldest crown jewels in existence, the Treasury circa 962 of the Holy Roman Empire, and the Imperial Burial Vault located in the Capuchin Church built in the 17th century.

Vienna is also home to over 100 museums. The bigger museums are the Museum of Fine Arts, Vienna’s Museum of Natural History, and the Belvedere, home to Gustav Klimt’s legendary painting The Kiss. Unique exhibitions include the Salvador Dali Museum that features the majority of the artist’s sketches and the Leopold Museum, which houses an interesting collection of nouveau Viennese art.

As a major European city, just about every type of food, from Italian to authentic Indian, can be found in Vienna. For a finer meal dine at the world-famous Griechenbeisl Restaurant, established in 1705 and Vienna’s oldest restaurant. Though the food is great, it’s not exactly what keeps people coming to dine. The walls and ceiling of the signature room of Griechenbeisl have been signed by some of the most influential people in history. The oldest signature is that of Mozart, and his is followed by Beethoven’s. Other notable autographs include that of Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, and Johnny Cash.

If you are in town on a Sunday, visit the Augartenpalais, where the world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir sings during the church service. Pews in the church are for members only, but standing room in the back is on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to get there early. Various concerts are also given throughout the year by the Vienna Boys Choir. To see the green sprawling hills that come to mind when thinking of the Vienna Boys Choir and Austria itself, visit nearby Salzburg, which is a quick 3 hour train ride away. Salzburg was once home to Mozart and is now home to the Mozart Festival.
