Hardwood Vacation Rentals and Lodging

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is a great vacation destination, with such cities as Hardwood, Marquette, Escanaba, and Iron Mountain. The Upper Peninsula is flat and swampy in the east, as part of the Great Lakes Plain, and mountainous and rugged in the west, the Superior Upland. Many of the Great Lakes are accessible in the Upper Peninsula, including Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Both lakes are great to visit as National Landmarks and as great places for sport and leisure.

Lake Michigan especially is known for its beautiful beaches. The clear, cool waters of Lake Michigan are frequented by many during the mild and pleasant Michigan summers. Other notable attractions of the Upper Peninsula are its many state parks, the National Ski Hall of Fame, and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. The area is also known for its casinos. In Marquette, one of the larger cities on the Upper Peninsula, is one of the Ojibwa Casinos. The other location is in Baraga, a smaller community of the Upper Peninsula. A lot of the casinos in the area have become more elaborate and now offer such amenities as golfing, swimming, and spas.

While close to the Great Lakes, a ferry ride is a great experience to have. There are always ferries that run to Sugar Island, Neebish Island, and Drummond Island. One of the larger bridges that is great to visit is the Portage Life Bridge, which crosses Portage Lake. The drawbridge lifts 100 feet for ships to pass. It truly is a sight to see.

A lot of the Upper Peninsula’s attractions center around the water because Michigan’s famous summers provide the perfect back-drop for a vacation on the shores of Lake Michigan.
