Durango Vacation Rentals and Lodging
Durango is located in the Animas River Valley, close to the San Juan Mountains, so it is a town enriched with gorgeous scenery. This scenery allows Durango to be an outdoor lover’s paradise. Visitors can go through the whole list of outdoor activities while they are in Durango: rafting, mountain biking, hiking, rock-climbing, fishing, golfing, kayaking, and hunting. And that’s just to name the obvious. If you like hiking, try back-packing long-distance in Durango. If you like mountain biking, try road biking and just enjoying the lovely scenery. If you like fishing, venture into fly-fishing. To take a break from all this activity in the summer, there’s the annual Music in the Mountains, which is a festival that showcases many of the world’s finest classical musicians. As Colorado’s favorite sport, skiing is easily accessible in the winter. Durango is conveniently located close to 5 different skiing destinations, like Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort and Mesa Verde National Park. Also in the summer is the annual Snowdown Festival. Taking place towards the end of May, the Snowdown Festival hosts concerts, fireworks, and its best attraction, the closing parade. To learn a little about Durango’s history, visit the railroad that runs through town. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a heritage railway that travels from Durango to the close-by city of Silverton. The trains on this railway are steam-powered and date back to at least the 1920s. Anything outdoors is treasured and preserved in Durango. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
