Like many cities in Northern Michigan , Charlevoix is adored and visited because of its mild summer weather. Every year, to beautify itself for the summer, Charlevoix has its annual Petunia Planting . Every Thursday before Memorial Day the city comes together and plants over 60,000 petunias on its Main Street.
 
Charlevoix is located on the waters of Lake Michigan , so lends itself to lots of boating traffic and sport. Lake Charlevoix, which feeds into Lake Michigan, is known for its leisurely boating and fishing.
 
The nearby Young State Park hosts a couple of fishing tournaments during the summer. The Young State Park is also famous for its nice beaches, hiking, in the winter, cross-country skiing.
 
The city’s popular festival on the lake is the annual Venetian Festival . The Venetian Festival’s main attraction is the boat parade, but there are also musical performances by well-known artists, two nights of spectacular fireworks shows, and a carnival.
 
In the late summer, specifically the second Saturday in August, the city also hosts the Waterfront Art Fair . Some of the nation’s finest artists, who have been chosen among many, showcase their work in the festival. Because of the quality of the work included and the great summer weather on the waters on Charlevoix, the Waterfront Art Fair is highly respected and frequented by many art lovers and enthusiasts.
 
The Apple Festival is also very popular in Charlevoix, Michigan . In October, all of the local farmers bring their harvests into downtown Charlevoix, and the entire city celebrates one of the region’s prominent crops. The Apple Festival includes tons of great activities for children, like pony-rides, face-painting and crafts.
