The sparsely inhabited Bimini Islands (North Bimini and South Bimini) are not only physically beautiful environments for your vacation rental, but these little islands are rich in history, literary significance and mysterious local legends.
 
Ponce de Leon searched for the Fountain of Youth here, believing it to be located on South Bimini. You can drink from the Fountain of Youth well on South Bimini, or visit The Healing Hole, deep in the saltwater swamp of North Bimini, where underground mineral water bubbles to the surface. According to legend, this water has healing or rejuvenating properties.
 
Another famous mystery is the Bimini Road. The psychic Edgar Cayce predicted that ruins of Atlantis would be found off Bimini, and some claim that the underwater road, made of giant limestone blocks, is a sign of an ancient civilization. Geologists say it is a natural but fascinating formation. Either way, Bimini Road is a memorable place to go snorkeling or diving! Bimini is also surrounded by centuries of shipwrecks, which make fascinating dive destinations.
 
Less mysterious is Bimini’s reputation as the world capital of deep-sea fishing. Many record fish have been caught here, including the giant marlin that inspired the fish in Ernest Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea. Hemingway spent a few years on Bimini, where he wrote To Have and Have Not. The islands’ influence can also be found in his book Islands in the Stream. Bimini is located on the Gulf Stream, where the warm water brings great fishing.
 
By night, enjoy the laid-back local restaurants and bars. You’ll probably find yourself partying with Floridians stopping by in their yachts, because Bimini is the most western district of the Bahamas.
