Andros Island is the largest of the Bahama Islands, but has few inhabitants and is one of the least developed islands. It is such a treasure that some locals are working to have much of the island declared a national park. If you want a vacation rental that includes peace, quiet, and lots of time spent in nature, Andros Island has the vacation rental for you.
 
Andros Island is a "must-visit" for anyone interested in snorkeling or diving. There is the world’s third largest coral reef, and then the Tongue of the Sea, a mile-deep trench inhabited by giant fish, dolphins and whales. Andros is also famous for the maze of underwater cave tunnels beneath the island, which are accessible through the many bottomless blue pools all over the surface of the island. Local legend says these cave openings are home to the sea monster Lucsa. This may be the best place in the world for cave diving. (Of course, only experienced divers with a knowledgeable local guide should go swimming in the underwater tunnels!)
 
The Tongue is an ideal place for deep-sea fishing. You can also take fishing excursions through the many channels of the island’s mangrove swamps, a favorite place for bonefishing. You can also explore Morgan’s Cave, a rumored hideout (and treasure-burying spot) of the famous pirate Captain Morgan. The ancient forest is excellent for hiking, and you can hire local guides who will add island lore and knowledge of native plants and animals to your hike.
 
Visitors to the island can stop by the Androsia garment factory in Fresh Creek to find the bright, hand-painted fabrics, batik clothing, and resort wear that are sold all over the Caribbean. They are happy to give you a tour of their factory!
