Originally named Eden, Bar Harbor, Maine is located the Down East region of Coastal Maine on Mount Desert Island. Bar Harbor is also the birthplace of former Vice President Nelson Rockefeller and, in 1910, President William Howard Taft traveled to Bar Harbor to play golf at the Kebo Valley Golf Club where visitors can still play a round of golf. Stroll down the historic Main Street to see the Bar Harbor attractions including the historic district that survived the 1947 wildfires. The Bar Harbor hotel, Rodick House was once the largest hotel in the United States and a lobby became known as the "fishing pond" for the privileged where young ladies fished for their future mates. You can see the preserved memories of Bar Harbor’s heyday at the Bar Harbor historical society, just a short walk from the waterfront. Take a stroll along Millionaire’s Row to see the spectacular summer estates of the wealthy. Cruise ships dock in the Bar Harbor port May through October. Summertime fills the town with music and events and September is the busiest time in Bar Harbor when the beautiful fall leaves change color.
