Indiana Rentals By Owner
The Midwest state of Indiana is a vacation renter’s dream destination, full of history, culture, and both indoor and outdoor fun! The varied topography of the state lends itself to many different vacation activities, all while remaining in the Hoosier State!
Southern Indiana, for example, is full of gentle, rolling hills and Evansville, Indiana – also known as "River City". Evansville is located on a bend in the Ohio River and is home to the state’s first riverboat casino, Casino Aztar, and the University of Southern Indiana. Just recently, in 2008, Kiplinger actually voted Evansville as one of the best cities in the nation. One of the best times to stop by this gem of a city is in early October, for the West Side Nut Club Festival – a street fair in downtown Evansville that brings in nearly 150,000 people. But be sure to watch out for local celebrity Wilson the Turkey – signs are everywhere in downtown Evansville protecting this unusual town mascot so he can safely cross the road.
Up north, Indiana borders Lake Michigan and is full of sand dunes and chillier climates. It’s also home to the University of Notre Dame, and Indiana’s own Fighting Irish. Travel north to Fort Wayne, also in Northern Indiana, and catch some falling bread from the billboard on top of Perfection Bakery – the billboard literally spills fresh bread on the heads of passerby!
Central Indiana is home to fertile, rolling plains and Indiana’s capital, Indianapolis. Indianapolis is perhaps best known for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the long-celebrated Indy 500. This event is widely considered one of the top three racing events world-wide and is held every Memorial Day weekend. Also in Indianapolis is the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza, honoring those Hoosiers who lost their lives defending our country in World War I, the Indy Jazz Festival, and the Circle of Lights event, held in downtown the day after Thanksgiving.
The Hoosier state is home to endless festivals celebrating everything from the Arts to Zoos and anything in between! The state can boast the city with the first electric streetlights (Wabash) and is considered the birthplace of high school basketball. A vacation rental in Indiana can be packed full of history and fun. Canoeing, snowmobiling, a jazz concert, an art museum, Marengo Cave National Park, Amish country – all things you can see and do during a vacation rental in Indiana!
