The oldest musical festival in the United States takes place every year in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Worcester Music Festival. The Worcester Music Festival season runs from October to June and hosts numerous art performances. The festival focuses on presenting orchestras, ballets, chamber music, jazz, and other arts from all over the world. During the season, the city now hosts the Mass Jazz Festival as well.
 
Because of the extensive festival, performing arts centers are everywhere in Worcester, Massachusetts, and even in the off season, are always having performances. One of the most notable is Tuckerman Hall, which was designed by one of the country’s first woman architects, Josephine Wright Chapman. Tuckerman Hall is the home of the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra and always has different events like lectures and auctions taking place.
 
Another great Worcester festival is the stART on the Street. On the 3rd Sunday every September, Worcester hosts the largest free arts festival in the United States on Park Avenue. It’s a daylong arts, music, and cultural celebration. Local artists and vendors line the streets to sell their goods, and a big stage is set up that usually holds some sort of band -- that band can be rock and roll or jazz or something else entirely! This festival is followed by the annual First Night. Every New Year’s Eve, Worcester, like many other larger cities in the United States, hosts this arts celebration to help ring in the New Year.
 
Because of its many nationally acclaimed arts festivals, Worcester is a city that any arts lover should visit.
