Ann Arbor has been the home of the University of Michigan since the 19th century. The University of Michigan’s football team, the Wolverines, is a part of the Big Ten Conference, and college football is a great attraction of Ann Arbor. Michigan stadium, where the Wolverines play, is the largest football-only stadium in the world. The university’s hockey team is also very popular and a part of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
 
While in town to catch a football game in the fall, the museums on the University of Michigan’s campus are worth checking out. The three museums, located on Central Campus—which is the original, structural core of the university—are the Exhibit Museum of Natural History, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, and the Kelsey Museum of Archeology.
 
Another museum in Ann Arbor that’s a great attraction for children, is the Hands-On Museum. The Hands-On Museum has 9 different exhibit rooms featuring space exploration, the nature of Michigan, and electricity.
 
The Matthaei Botanical Gardens is another collection affiliated with the university. It’s free to tour the grounds of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and enjoy the many outdoor plants, but to enter the conservatory, there is an admission fee.
 
The summer is also a great time to visit Ann Arbor. During the third week in July, the city hosts the Ann Arbor Art Fairs. Running from Wednesday to Sunday, four fairs run concurrently on the city streets while music and children’s activities are swirling around as well.
 
In the spring, the city hosts the Ann Arbor Film Festival. Hosting many independent and experimental filmmakers, the festival is the second oldest in North America and presents over 2,000 entries. The Ann Arbor Film Festival is one of the major draws in Ann Arbor and his highly respected throughout the world.
