Detroit Rentals By Owner

Detroit has two affectionate nicknames: the Motor City and Motown.

Detroit, Michigan is known as the Motor City because it is revered as the heart of the American Automotive Industry. The first moving assembly line in the country, commandeered by Henry Ford, was constructed in Detroit, and the Ford Model T was produced in mass quantities that would have otherwise not been possible. This history has been preserved in Detroit.

Detroit’s skyline is one of the most dynamic in the country. Its art deco constructions, post-modern sky-scrapers, and distinctive buildings, like the Renaissance Center and Detroit Opera House, make the skyline easily recognizable.

Detroit’s nightlife is one of the major reasons it is referred to as Motown. Detroit is brought to life at night with tons of live music, and it has been that way in the city since the 1940s. If you find yourself downtown, the two most popular music venues are the DTE Energy Music Theatre and the Palace of Auburn Hills. Both venues host contemporary acts. To enjoy classical music, Detroit has venues such as the Detroit Opera House and Orchestra Hall, home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Because of the city’s love of music, there are tons of music festivals that take place throughout the year. Over Memorial Day weekend, the city always hosts the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. The festival showcases electronic dance music, otherwise known as techno music. Every day over Labor Day weekend, the city hosts the Detroit International Jazz Festival. This is a mostly free festival that is rated in the top-five jazz festivals in the United States.

Aside from its two most popular attractions, cars and music, Detroit also has a great, bustling city life that offers great restaurants, rich history, and constant entertainment.
