Lansing Rentals By Owner

Located in Central Michigan , Lansing is a major hub and the capital city of the state. For this reason, the state capitol building is a great attraction. The building was made a National Historic Landmark in 1992, but was erected in the late 19th century. The national trend after the Civil War was to make big, fireproof buildings, and Michigan’s capitol building followed suit.

Also, as the capital city of Michigan , Lansing hosts a number of the state’s larger celebrations and parades. Every year on a Saturday in August, Lansing hosts the Capital City African American Cultural Association Parade . The parade has taken place for almost a decade and helps to promote cultural awareness in the area.

Also in the summer is the Lansing JazzFest . Lansing JazzFest is a free festival that has locally, regionally, and nationally known performers. The other popular and larger musical festival is the Old Town BluesFest. It is also free, but takes place in the fall and focuses mainly on the blues.

Old Town BluesFest is followed closely by Oktoberfest . The two-day German celebration stays true to its roots and boasts German fare and beer. The most contemporary festival is the Common Ground Festival. The Common Ground Festival takes place every July and attracts many mainstream acts for all musical genres.

For music year-round and a more classical fix, there’s the Lansing Symphony Orchestra . The Lansing Symphony Orchestra was founded in the 1920s, and it changes its programming with the seasons. Other attractions include a farmer’s market during the summer months, the Potter Park Zoo, and the Abrams Planetarium.
