Iowa Rentals By Owner
An Iowa vacation rental can very easily be centered around one thing – water! Iowa is the only state to be bordered on both its eastern and western limits by water – The Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri river to the west. In fact, several of the state’s most popular cities are port cities and are located along one of the two mighty raging rivers. One of these aforementioned cities is Keokuk, Iowa – the lowest elevation in the state and the winter home to the largest concentration of Bald Eagles on the Mississippi river. A vacation rental near Keokuk means a stunning winter display of our nation’s feathered mascot – many folks gather for such a display during Keokuk’s Bald Eagle Appreciation Days, the third weekend in January.
Iowa is home to very brisk winters and snowfall is more a rule than an exception – all of this provides for some spectacular winter sports! Snowmobiling and skiing are prevalent and can be found throughout much of Iowa. This doesn’t mean that summers don’t have their fair share of fun, too! Ames Falls, in central Iowa, is home to the Iowa Games Summer Sports Festival, an athletic competition comprised of every summer sport under the sun – baseball, wrestling, cycling, fending, and even darts! The climate of Ames Falls, Iowa is also a perfect host for a visit to the Prairie Moon Winery and Vineyards for a sampling of the state’s finest wines.
Iowa’s outdoor beauty has long since been an inspiration to artists – the movies The Bridges of Madison County and Field of Dreams were both filmed in the Hawkeye State. And Iowa is just as gorgeous in person as it is on the silver screen. Its capital, Des Moines, has long since bragged about their pedestrian-friendly downtown. The sidewalks are full of beautiful architecture and charming cafes. Des Moines is also home to the largest fair in the state – the Iowa State Fair. Iowans and vacation renters wanting to experience a little "bright lights, big city" can even take in a touring Broadway show at Des Moines’ Civic Center!
For a different kind of fun, Dubuque has several different casinos where you can try your luck. This self-dubbed "Masterpiece on the Mississippi" is home to countless large parks and Fenlon Place Elevator – the world’s shortest and steepest railway! West Branch is home to the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and Herbert Hoover Library. And Sioux City, in northern Iowa, very proudly displays a commemorative statue of native Sioux Chief Wambdi Okicize in War Eagle Park.
So take an Iowa vacation rental and immerse yourself in a relaxed lifestyle in this land-locked, yet water-filled state!
