Jon's Guide Service
Join me, Jon Kestner and the guides of Jon’s Guide Service and explore the great fishing and great rivers of northern Michigan . Float down some of the Midwest’s finest rivers and streams on a Guided Fly Fishing trip for, Trout, Salmon, and Steelhead. I have been guiding Northwest Michigan Rivers and lakes for over twenty years. Discover the different seasons that Michigan has to offer ; Steelhead fishing in early spring, matching the hatch, moving monster Brown Trout on streamers, fishing the famous “Hex” hatch, throwing hoppers along the great undercut banks and structure, chasing the thousands of Salmon that enter the local rivers , to stalking silver Steelhead in the fall. With a resource like no other, Michigan’s fly fishing opportunities are many. I invite you to discover why I have made this my home, and why I am one of the best at what I do. Traverse City is known as the cherry capital of the world, and every year during the first week in July, the city holds the National Cherry Festival. Held on the coast of the West Grand Traverse Bay, the cherry festival has great little contests like cherry pit spitting, pie eating, and the festival’s take on American Idol, Cherry Idol – but the National Cherry Festival is mainly centered on the harvesting of the region’s cherries. Also during the festival, the Grand Royale Parade shows off the newly-crowned Cherry Queen, there is plenty of food, and a festival of races on both bike and foot. Another fruit that’s important to Traverse City is grapes. The city is one of the biggest wine producers in the Mid-West. There are tons of wineries in Traverse City, and it also holds the Traverse City Wine and Art Festival in late summer. The festival celebrates wine, food, and the art of the region. The music during the festival is typically jazz, the art eclectic, and the wine plentiful, as more than 20 wineries show up to be sampled. Traverse City has many freshwater beaches that go perfectly with the mild summer weather of Michigan state. In the summer, while taking a break from the beaches, tourists can also attend the Traverse City Film Festival. Steadily growing in popularity, the festival has even hosted such stars and their films as Michael Moore. If visiting Traverse City during the winter, the city also has a lot to offer. There are many ski resorts in the surrounding areas to stay busy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
