Rochester, Minnesota is a great vacation city located on the South Fork of the Zumba River. Rochester has been on the Money magazine’s " Best Place to Live" list for years – and after you visit the city you will completely understand why.
 
Rochester has been given the nickname the "Med City" because it is home to one of the top rated hospitals in the country, the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic has been around for nearly 100 years and actually creates most of the skyline for Rochester with 8 of the 10 tallest buildings being owned by the clinic.
 
A popular attraction in the city is the one-of-a-kind Mayowood Mansion. The mansion was home to 3 generations of doctors in the mayo family. Built in 1910, much of the architecture was done by Dr. Mayo himself. The mansion ended up being an amazing 5 story mansion with 38 rooms, just 3 miles from downtown. It also overlooked the Mayowood Gardens, located on a wooded hillside with a breathtaking view of the Zumbo River Valley. This is a definite must-see while here in the city.
 
Rochester is also unique in the fact that you can go shopping, check into your hotel, and dine out without having to step foot in to the cold winter air if you don’t want to! Because of the skyway system and the subway system, staying warm and dry is always an easy thing to do.
 
If you are looking forward to seeing some of the dense forest, the rolling fields, and some rural areas as well, hop on a bike and follow the Root River and Douglas State Trails, which make up about 55 miles of the 60 miles of paved trails in the city. Parts of these trails are located on historic railroad passages and run along the meandering Root River. If you are looking for a fantastic place to eat while in the city, check out Mc Goon’s Taxi Co. This is a unique pub in downtown Rochester with a full service menu that features choices ranging from juicy burgers, amazing Fish-N-Chips, or a delicious Portobello Sandwich. Of course you can not leave without taking a bite of their mouth watering Chocolate Cobbler!
 
Looking for something a little more up-scale? Victoria’s Ristorante and Wine Bar is perfect for romantic meal over a fine glass of wine, Al Pomodora or Chicken Scarpelli, and some homemade Tiramisu for dessert.
