The first fun fact for Springfield is that it is the " Birthplace of Route 66". In Springfield, on April 30, 1026, officials here proposed "Route 66" as the name of the "Mother Road" stretching from the Great Lakes to the Pacific Coast.
 
Spend time in downtown Springfield, where the city is continually renovating the area making it quite the hotspot for locals and tourists. There are trendy new bars, unique places to dine, hip boutiques, new modern lofts, and music venues. Also scattered throughout the downtown area are some beautifully restored historic theaters such as the Gillioz Theater and the Landers Theatre.
 
Another great area to spend some time is the Commercial Street Historic District. There is plenty to see and do here starting with shopping.
