Carlsbad, NM is located in the Chihuahuan Desert and the Pecos River Valley, right near the border of Texas. It has some amazing sites to be seen, which makes for great tourism attractions.
 
Take the time to go and see the wonder of Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which holds the second largest cave chamber in the world. Located in the Guadalupe Mountains, the primary attraction is the show cave. You can hike or take an elevator directly underground some 750 feet. If you stay around when the sun is about to go down, then you can’t miss the bat show. As you look above, you will see thousands of bats swirling around the hole of the cavern and then shoot out of the cave's opening. The bats are so close to you that you can ear the strange sounds they make while in flight. Before the actual bat action, you’ll get to learn some interesting facts on the bats from your tour guide.
 
With Texas located so close to Carlsbad, New Mexico, you can go hiking at the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, which contains Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas. Some of the trails there offer outstanding views of El Capitan and the Chihuahuan desert. It also contains McKittrick Canyon a beautiful site to see in the fall with the colors of the Bigtooth Maples, which stand in contrast to the background of the Chihuahuan desert.
 
While there, you can see the ruins of an old stagecoach station. Have fun at the Living Desert Zoological and Botanical State Park which showcase animals and plants of the Chihuahuan Desert in their natural habitat. Take a cruise on Carlsbad Cruise Lines through a historic sunset dinner tour or rent your paddle boat for some fun on the lake. For all you golfers, get out on the green at Lake Carlsbad Golf Course which offers a beautiful 18 and 9 hole course. At dinner time, eat and watch a great movie in your car at the Fiesta Drive-In Theatre.
