Taos, NM is a town in Taos County, a part of the north-central region of New Mexico. Taos’ Hispanic culture is the most evident at Las Fiestas de Santiago and Santa Ana, which is held in July. This celebration is filled with parades, local musicians, and traditional folk dances. To really understand the culture visit the Pot Creek Cultural Site. It’s located in the valley of a small tributary of the Rio Grande. This cultural site allows you to take a tour of reconstructed dwellings which depict the lives of the Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico. La Hacienda de los Martinez is another area you can walk through and get a glimpse of the rugged frontier life in the early 1800s. Have some fun outdoors at the Taos Native Sons and Adventures, where you can go hiking from the depths of the Rio Grande Gorge to the heights of New Mexico’s tallest mountain. Other activities offered are bike rentals, skiing, and snowmobiling tours. Have an exciting rafting adventure through the rapid waters with New Mexico’s oldest and most experienced rafting company, Los Rios River Runners. Then dry off and head over to the cute adobe structure, the Taos Plaza, which has over 65 galleries, shops, and restaurants. Sit down and have a bite to eat at Doc Martin’s amid a historic setting of a thick-walled adobe home with beautiful artwork that covers the walls. Make sure to have a glass of their wine, which was given the award of excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine, while listening to live Jazz. Or eat some delicious fresh wild game at the De La Tierra. Whichever you choose, your stomach will undoubtedly be satisfied. Taos Area Map for Your Vacation Planning |
