Minnesota Vacation Rentals
When people refer to Minnesota as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," they are not exaggerating. In fact, they’re underestimating this aquatic state – Minnesota actually has over 11,000 inland lakes within its borders! All of this water provides many opportunities for outdoor fun. And Minnesotans certainly like to take advantage of them. With a Minnesota vacation rental, you can take advantage of all these opportunities as well!
Minnesota is a state of pretty extreme weather. Summers can get pretty hot, but this means that the winters get downright cold. In order to deal with the cold better, Minnesotans have decided to just go ahead and embrace it! Winter sports such as hockey, curling, and ice skating are a way of life in the North Star State. Even the fishing continues year-round – ice fishing, that is! And while you’re at your Minnesota vacation rental, ask a local to teach you the fine sport of broomball, another winter Minnesota state pastime.
When the weather gets even too chilly for the easily adaptable Minnesotans, they head inside. The Mall of America in Bloomington is the biggest mall in America – shopaholics could spend their entire vacation roaming the storefronts of this marvel. And Duluth, Minnesota is home to America’s only all-freshwater aquarium, The Great Lakes Aquarium. Not all of Minnesota’s indoor activities are necessarily inside of manmade structures either; Winona, the Stained Glass Capital of the World, has Sugar Loaf, a limestone formation that towers 5,000 feet over the town and Lake Winona. Sugar Loaf used to house a brewery inside of it that was even included on the National Register of Historic Places! Rumors are flying that the brewery might be reinstated and given a second chance at life…
Laura Ingalls Wilder’s series Little House on the Prairie was partially set on the Minnesota prairie and readers will be familiar with much of the landscape described in Wilder’s classic books. The Minnesota prairie land where little Laura and her family spent many years has not changed too much since then. And the homegrown culture depicted in the book has most definitely remained. The Minnesota State Fair is even dubbed The Great Minnesota Get-Together, as if all Minnesotans are part of one, big, happy family. And the St. Paul Winter Carnival, which features ice sculpting contests and a winter palace, began all the way back in 1886. In fact the longest continuously operating restaurant, Michael’s, is still in business over in Rochester, Missouri. Since 1951 Michael’s has been serving locals and tourists alike a heaping portion of "Minnesota Nice."
This water-filled state is home to over 72 state parks, the Minnesota Vikings’ summer training camp, and three separate homes in Rochester alone that are designed by world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. In fact, Minnesota’s highest point of elevation, Eagle Mountain, is only 13 feet away from its lowest point of elevation, found on the Lake Superior shore. With a state that is this diverse within a meager 13 feet, you’ll be sure to have an exciting and adventurous vacation rental full of experiences both modern and historical. So ask a Minnesotan if you should book your next vacation rental in Minnesota – their answer will surely be, "You bet!"
