Devils Lake, North Dakota was named after the nearby Devils Lake, and the town centers a lot of activity on the local body of water.
 
Fishing is very popular in and on Devils Lake. In the summer, the lake is full of walleye and pike. Every year, the town hosts the Chamber Walleye Tournament . There are cash prizes for the largest fish caught in every category, like largest walleye and largest white bass. The Chamber Walleye Tournament usually takes place at the end of July.
 
In the fall, hunters can be found on the water for some of the best duck and goose hunting in the area. On the banks of the lake, many white-tail deer also appear. Keep in mind that both a fishing license and a hunting license are needed to practice the sports legally in the state of North Dakota, and they can easily be obtained online or once you reach your destination.
 
Devils Lake is full of woodlands, wetlands, and prairies that make it ideal for wildlife viewing. Bird watching is very common in the area due to its unique geography and topography. Sully’s Hill National Game Preserve is a protected and popular spot to visit. The most common birds spotted in the area are pheasants and waterfowl. Annually in the summer, the town holds the Sully’s Hill Birding and Nature Festival, which highlights the areas strengths and brings in nature enthusiasts from around the world.
