Columbus, the capital city of Ohio, was named for the famed explorer Christopher Columbus, and the city does a great job of living up to his reputation. Being home to Ohio State University helps to add a fun and cultural dynamic to the city. The Ohio State Buckeyes bring a huge gathering to the city during the fall months and college football season. The nightlife in the area thrives during these times.
 
Bars to visit after the game are Thirsty Ear Tavern and Byrne’s Pub. To hear some live music, head to the Worst Bar in Columbus or Long Street Entertainment; or, if you interested in mingling with the happy hour crowd, Round Bar or Club 185 are your best bets.
 
The campus of Ohio State University has four nationally registered historic buildings, so a trip to the grounds is definitely worth it. While on the campus, also check out a performance of the Ohio State Jazz Ensemble. They are nationally known and revered, and have even played in some of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world. The university’s all men Glee Club is very popular in Columbus as well.
 
For racing fans, the Columbus Motor Speedway is a huge draw. Aside from weekly late model and modified races, the Columbus Motor Speedway holds races of the Whelen All-American Series.
 
One of the city’s claims to fame is as the home of the Budweiser Brewery. The Budweiser Brewery is located on the north side of the city, but the actual brewing district of the city is located on the south side and is home to eight different breweries, including Biersch Brewing and Hoster Brewing.
 
As a college town, which is home to almost 10 breweries, Columbus is sure to be a lively vacation destination!
