Sturgis Vacation Rentals and Lodging
Sturgis, South Dakota is a small town with a big reputation, at least among the biking community. Home to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, this town of just 6,700 swells to nearly half a million people every August, when bikers from far and wide descend on Sturgis to participate in bike week. The Sturgis Rally is a week-long event held during the first full week of August. Begun in 1939, bike week Sturgis brings concerts, races and bike shows to the town. The huge crowds in attendance are nearly double the population of the entire state of South Dakota. The predominately adult-focused event is definitely the main attraction in Sturgis and planning for the rally is no small task. Organizers and city officials begin planning for the next year as soon as the event concludes each August, tweaking policies and changing activities based on the results of the prior year. The Sturgis biker rally is arguably the largest and most popular of motorcycle events worldwide. The Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis has even become the subject of a popular reality show on TruTV. In addition to the concerts and other rally events, Harley-Davidson and Victory debut new models of their bikes each year at Sturgis. The week is a fun, entertaining glimpse into the bike world, but it's not for the faint of heart. Some bikers choose to "let it all hang out" and the party can get a little rowdy. For a more family-friendly visit to Sturgis, you may prefer to visit outside of the August rally. The Sturgis Calvary Days in June are a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to experience Sturgis' pioneer spirit in a "history you can touch" environment. Re-enactments, a chuck wagon dinner and authentic 1880s activities like a fishing rodeo and craft making bring the past to life for attendees. Whether you choose to visit during Sturgis bike rally or in a quieter time of year, you're sure to be charmed by the hospitality of this South Dakota town. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
