In the Southwest corner of the state of Utah is Cedar City. Average in size, Cedar City is located on the edge of the Markagunt Plateau, a desert valley. Throughout the year, the Markagunt Plateau comes alive with various cultural festivals, so much so that the city has dubbed itself " Festival USA." In the summer and fall, the Utah Shakespearean Festival brightens up the area. By performing works crafted by Shakespeare and other playwrights, the local South Utah University helps educate the area theatrically. The line-up of their work usually includes three Shakespearean plays, two works by other dramatists, and one musical. The whole town joins in to create a Shakespearean period mood during the time of the festival. The other theatrical festival in the area is the Neil Simon Festival, which presents three plays over the course of a week.
 
Groovefest, an American Music Festival, is free to the public for four days during the summer and showcases local art, music from all over the country, and any kind of food your heart desires. Groovefest takes places on the city’s historic Main Street—a great shopping and significant tourist attraction at any time of the year.
 
In September, the popular Cedar City Sky Fest attracts hot air balloons, kites, and radio controlled airplanes to its skies. During the holiday season, Cedar City hosts the annual American Children’s Christmas Festival. The American Children’s Christmas Festival is meant to celebrate the joy of the season and includes a Christmas Village, Santaland, decorated Christmas trees, seasonal dance and musical performances, and, the most popular, Storybook Cavalcade.
 
Along with its many entertaining festivals, Cedar City, Utah is also home to four National Parks and tons of natural beauty that makes it a great vacation destination.
