Salt Lake City is the capital city and busiest city in the state of Utah. The busiest spot in the city is Temple Square. As a city of Mormon descent, the emphasis on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a big draw and popular in Salt Lake City. Temple Square, in the direct center of Salt Lake, is the home of the Salt Lake Temple , Tabernacle, and Assembly Hall, as well as two visitor centers.
 
The Seagull Monument is a main tourist draw in Temple Square. The Seagull Monument is a concrete and bronze statue built to commemorate Mormon history and principles. The Church History Museum is also located near Temple Square, and chronicles the progression of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
 
Aside from its Mormon heritage, the city also showcases in history in the Utah Museum of Natural History and the Utah Pioneer Memorial Museum. Other notable museums in Salt Lake City are the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Clark Planetarium, and Discovery Gateway—a hands-on children’s museum.
 
The Salt Lake local music scene is dictated by the popular free magazine Salt Lake Underground, or more commonly referred to as SLUG. Picking up an issue of SLUG in Salt Lake is the best way to find out where and when local bands are playing.
 
The biggest festival of Salt Lake City is during the week of Pioneer Day , which always falls on July 24th. Pioneer Day is celebrated with three parades, tons of food, activities, and crafts, and a finale firework show in the city’s Liberty Park. Salt Lake City is great to visit year-round , and other great festivals that liven up the capital city are First Night on New Year’s Eve, the Salt Lake City Marathon in April, and the Greek Festival over Labor Day weekend.
