Like many of the larger cities in the United States, Burlington hosts First Night every New Year’s Eve. The annual event holds tons of artistic and cultural performances throughout the town for the event, and then rings in the new year with a finale. Through this event a lot of the city’s attractions are highlighted.
 
For one, Burlington is located on the shores of Lake Champlain and overlooks the Adirondack Mountains . This beautiful view on Burlington’s waterfront paths and swings is intensified with colorful fireworks on New Year’s Eve, but is, of course, just as enjoyable for a leisurely stroll any other day of the year.
 
Located on the riverfront is the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center . As the only certified green aquarium in the United States, the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center is the eco-friendly home to many species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles.
 
For a sweeter tour, head to the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory . The all natural chocolate factory offers free tours every hour, on the hour Monday through Thursday, and free chocolate tastings on Fridays!
 
Burlington has always embraced its local music, and even produced popular artists such as Phish, Dispatch and KT Tunstall. That is to say that the local music in Burlington is great and entertaining, and there are tons of places to go to listen to it. Higher Ground is a popular music venue that also hosts comedy acts. Live music can always be found, seven nights a week, at the local and popular Nectar’s Restaurant . For more traditional music, visit the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, which has been a local landmark and has highlighted Burlington’s ambitious, visit-worthy local music scene for over 70 years.
