A big event in Colchester is Lake Champlain International Father’s Day Fishing Derby . Every year on Father’s Day in June, the town hosts this huge event that gives out over 150 prizes. While father and son teams are most popular, anyone can enter in the Lake Champlain International Father’s Day Fishing Derby. The most popular fish found in the area are largemouth bass, lake trout, lake sturgeon, and rainbow smelt. Hunters are also drawn to the area for its great population of whitetail deer, moose, and waterfowl.
 
Lake Champlain provides tons of recreation in the city throughout the year as well. The lake is good for kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife viewing. A lot of time is spent outdoors in Colchester. Leddy Park is the center of outdoor recreation in the city. Leddy Park has a small beach on Lake Champlain, as well as a 7 mile biking and hiking trail that runs alongside the lake. Other amenities the park has to offer are an indoor ice skating rink, tennis courts, and a playground for children.
