Bellingham has an interesting nickname—the city of subdued excitement —that cues a traveler in to what an interesting vacation rental destination it is. The city is both laid-back and exciting, which are definitely two qualities vital to any vacation that don’t always go hand in hand.
 
A small creek, Whatcom Creek, runs through the center of Bellingham and provides a sense of calming beauty for the city. Bellingham offers water and mountain views like the rest of the state, without being too big of a city with too big of a population.
 
It is full of many tourist attractions to stay busy. The Whatcom Museum of History and Art is the home of local history exhibits and many medias of art. If visiting from April through December, the Bellingham Farmer’s Market is open on Saturdays and hosts tons of local vendors, music, and events.
 
Many festivals take place throughout the year in Bellingham. Bellingham is home to the Bellingham Highland Games and Scottish Festival. Annually in the first weekend in June, Bellingham celebrates its Scottish heritage in their version of the country’s tradition. Sports lovers should check out the long-running Ski to Sea Race . Participants come from all over the world to compete in and enjoy the seven leg relay race made up of cross country and downhill skiing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain and road biking, and running. The Ski to Sea Race is the city’s main draw throughout the year, and a great time to check out the laid-back yet exciting atmosphere of Bellingham, Washington .
