Seattle is probably the most well-known city and the biggest tourist destination in the state of Washington. Pike Place Market is the epitome of a tourist destination in Seattle: it’s unique, exciting, and well-known and visited. The main draw of Pike Place Market is the Pike Place Fish Market, a cool destination that allows any brave soul to become an employee for a minute and catch their purchase in paper after it is flung their way. It’s almost as exciting to watch as it is to partake. While at Pike Place Market, head down to the city’s waterfront and have a nice meal at the many restaurants overlooking the port of Seattle. For a fine dining experience, head to the architectural landmark, the Space Needle. The top of the Space Needle is a rotating restaurant that allows for the best view of the city. From the top of the Space Needle, you can witness one of the popular recreational activities in Seattle, taking a ride in a hydroplane. Kerry Park—a laid-back park on Queen Hill that is great for enjoying one of Seattle’s specialties, coffee— can also be seen from the Space Needle, and is definitely worth visiting while in Seattle. The most popular and unique museum in the Seattle area is the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. The EMP/ SFM, for short, specializes in both the arts of music and science fiction. Other museums in Seattle include the Center for Wooden Boats, the Loghouse Museum, the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, and the Northwest African American Museum. Throughout the year, Seattle is the host for many exciting festivals. The biggest of the year is the annual Gay Pride Parade and festivities. Over Labor Day weekend, the city hosts its most notable festival, Bumbershoot, an international music and arts festival. Bumbershoot also holds a Miss Hott Pants Contest and amateur motorcycle races. Other popular festivals that make Seattle, Washington an amazing tourist destination throughout the year include the Seattle International Film Festival, the annual Independence Day celebrations, and a Greek Festival. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
