Outdoor recreation is huge in Bluefield, because with a cool breeze and the great mountain scenery, who wants to be indoors? Hiking, biking, and catching a baseball game—the Appalachian League Bluefield Orioles play at Bowen Field—are all popular outdoor past-times. For the younger and more adventurous crowd, the ATV mountain trails are becoming a main draw in the area.
 
The annual Mountain Festival takes full advantage of the city’s perks. Every Memorial Day Weekend, the Mountain Festival holds an annual carnival, various games and competitions—like a softball game and a chainsaw carving invitational—local and traveling music acts, and tons of good West Virginia food . And they are all held outdoors in the beautiful brisk weather, of course! Other festivals throughout the year include the Holiday of Lights around during the holiday season and the Blue-Gray Horse Show, which boasts a little friendly competition in late July.
 
With its great, breezy weather, golfing is a favorite sport in Bluefield. Throughout southern West Virginia, the golfing industry is thriving, so there are tons of courses to choose from in the area. Two of the most popular in Bluefield are the Richwood Golf Club and the Bluefield Elks Lodge. All of the courses boast the great Appalachian Mountain scenery that truly makes Bluefield, West Virginia a great vacation destination.
