West Bend is a small city steeped in a large dose of German tradition. This heritage is best displayed through the city’s German inspired 25 member brass and woodwind ensemble, the River City Blaskapelle. The headline, of course, the West Bend Oktoberfest, which happens annually in the city, and the River City Blaskepelle also plays all over the state in German affiliated festivals. The band also plays frequently at events all over West Bend.
 
Because of its German roots, October is one of the most exciting times to visit West Bend. The city couples its Oktoberfest celebration with a beer tasting event that features local and German-inspired beers.
 
When the beer-tasting event isn’t happening in the city, coffee is the next best thing. West Bend is home to numerous locally owned coffee shops, including Morning Glory Coffee and St. Somewhere Café. While in the city visiting Kopp’s Frozen Custard is a must. Referred to as "custard heaven," Kopp’s is a Wisconsin institution that changes it flavors daily, for example from caramel cashew to peach melba.
 
West Bend honors local artists in the Museum of Wisconsin Art. Artists from all over the state are on exhibit at the Museum of Wisconsin Art. The Old Courthouse and the Old Jailhouse Museums are also main draws in West Bend. Sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society, the19th century buildings are preserved in their original state.
 
Also, West Bend is less than an hour’s drive from Milwaukee, so while in the area, visit the most popular city in Wisconsin and check out its great museums, breweries, and the Milwaukee Brewers!
