As the capital of Wyoming , Cheyenne is definitely worth a visit while in the great state. The state capitol building, a National Historic Landmark, was remodeled in the 1980s, and the renovation returned all of the walls to their original design and revamped the cherry woodwork. With details such as dome ceilings accented with stained glass from England, gold leaf, and Corinthian style columns, Wyoming State Capitol Building is worth visiting while in Cheyenne, if for nothing else than to view the grand—the third largest to ever be recorded—stuffed bison on display.
 
The second main attraction of the city is the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens . Located in the popular Lions Park, the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens have been ahead of the green curve since the 1970s. With greenhouses powered by solar energy, sustainability has always been important to the gardens. The grounds include over nine acres of plants and gardens, specializing in cacti, tropical plants, and herbs. The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens are a great tourist destination because they are opened every day of the year and are free to the public.
 
While in Lions Park , also visit the amphitheatre which is usually holding a local event or show. It is always available for rent to the public. Lions Park is also a great place for a leisurely walk or picnic.
 
The F. E. Warren Air Force Base is another National Historic Landmark in Cheyenne. It’s one of the nation’s oldest running air force bases and is filled with history of the area, air force, and of the country. A great way to take in the history of Cheyenne all at once is to take one the Historical District Walking Tour . The tour shows off all of the great areas of Cheyenne, Wyoming at once.
