First, while staying in Jackson, make your way to the national treasure that is Yellowstone National Park . Yellowstone is known for its natural beauty. With the majority of the park resting in the state of Wyoming, there is no reason to miss Yellowstone while visiting Jackson. Make sure to check out its natural wonders , its geysers and hot springs, as well as the abundant wildlife, roaming grizzlies and buffalo.
 
Another nearby park is Grand Teton National Park . The Grand Teton National Park is known for its beautiful hiking trails and scenic campgrounds. The park is nestled in the Teton Mountain Range , and its jagged peaks and deep canyons are beautifully mirrored in the many nearby lakes. The mountains offer a great place to hike, bike, snowmobile, and climb. The lakes and rivers of Grand Teton are used for boating, fishing, and as popular spots for bird watching and wildlife viewing.
 
Lastly, Jackson is very close to the National Elk Refuge . As home to the largest elk herd in the United States, Wyoming established the National Elk Refuge, a haven for the species. One of the best attractions of the refuge is the horse-drawn sleigh rides offered during the winter months. This provides visitors with a chance to see the herd of elk up close.
 
Also, if visiting during the winter, when the weather is not ideal for a hike in the park, take advantages of the skiing opportunities around Jackson. The original ski mountain in the city was Snow King , and it is still the most popular. The Jackson Hole ski resort is also a very popular skiing destination.
