Considered one of the sport fishing capitals of the state and even of the entire country, Islamorada is a great place to charter an off-shore fishing excursion or a back-country trip. The fishing captains of Islamorada have some of the best reputations in the world. The marina is a great place to go sightsee on the island, but it is also where to head if you're interested in ocean kayaking. Like every city in Florida, Islamorada is susceptible to hurricanes, and after an especially tragic storm in the 1930s, the city erected a memorial for its fallen citizens. As a huge part of Islamorada's history, the hurricane marker is located in an easy to spot location: on the Overseas Highway. The Overseas Highway is the collection of bridges and roads that tie all of the Florida Keys together, and makes it easy, while you're visiting one island, to visit another.
