Marathon, Florida encompasses many of the smaller islands in the Florida Keys, and thus, is a great beach vacation rental destination. The relaxing quality of the seven small islands is rivaled by very few similar islands in North America. Grassy Key, the northernmost island in Marathon, is in the exact center of the Florida Keys. Spending time on Grassy Key is just like vacationing on a private island. Boot Key is the small and relatively undeveloped island in Marathon that is the perfect venue for the Hawkwatch held on the island annually. Every fall, bird-watchers and conservationists get together on Boot Key to monitor, protect, and enjoy hawks, as well as eagles and other birds of prey. Adjacent to Boot Key is Key Vaca, the perfect beach vacation spot. Sport fishing is a main source of recreation in Marathon. With the choice of fishing in the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, anglers can choose which fish they'd like to pursue. There are charter boats available at all of the marinas in Marathon. Fresh and local fish are also enjoyed in the fabulous seafood restaurants of Marathon. The Island Fish Company Tiki Bar offers sunset and Florida bay views while eating some of the freshest seafood imaginable. Keys Fisheries Market and Marina allows its patrons to enjoy deliciously prepared fish in its dining and to also leave with fish from the market and a great recipe in hand.
