Molokai was once known as a leper colony, where Father Damien lived and worked with persons afflicted by leprosy and quarantined on the island. Today, visitors to Molokai can tour the former leper colony at Kalaupapa. The only access to Kalaupapa is by mule train, where hikers ride on muleback to the colony. Those taking this outing are rewarded by amazing views and an incredible journey through the lush landscape of Molokai.

Other popular attractions on this remote island known as the birthplace of hula include tours of local coffee plantations and the Na Kapuna Jam during the Aloha Friday sunset celebrations at the Hotel Molokai. The Na Kapuna Jam is a wonderful place for those on a Molokai vacation to mix with residents and learn about the local culture in a festive, party atmosphere. Performed every Friday, this musical celebration combines music, dance and storytelling for an unforgettable evening the entire family will enjoy.
