Ellijay, Georgia is a beautiful town located in Gilmer County, Georgia. The town is located just 80 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia for easy access to the big city. Travel to the local state park Amicalola Falls, just 20 miles southeast of Ellijay, to see the sparkling waters and 729 foot cascading waterfalls - or just to enjoy the Georgia mountains. Spend a full day discovering what Mother Nature has to offer in one of the parks' 8 mile trails. If you go just 18 miles North of Ellijay, you can take in the beauty of Fort Mountain State Park and its 855 foot-long rock wall. This park would be the perfect place for you and your family to enjoy a family picnic. There are plenty of things to do other than hiking outdoors. You can go canoeing or kayaking down the Catercay River, or spend the day doing some fishing on the banks of the Coosawattee River or at the Pearson Pond Ranch & Llama Co. If you are into history, spend some time at The Heritage Museum. Here you can see and learn about the Trail of Tears, the War Between States, and the gold rush early tourism. Visiting the Chieftain's Trail is also interesting when you get to take a tour of local Native American Sites. One last activity to enjoy if you visit Ellijay, Georgia at the right time of year is the Yearly Apple Festival held both the 2nd and 3rd weekends in October. Here you will get to try over 25 varieties of apples from the 18 different local orchards around Ellijay. There is no doubt you will get in a full day of eating trying everything from apple pies and candy apples to kettle corn and fried turkey legs.
