Birmingham Rentals By Owner

Though it’s not the state’s capital, Birmingham is Alabama’s capital of culture and entertainment. The largest art gallery in the state, the Birmingham Museum of Art is located in near the city’s Woodrow Wilson Park. The Birmingham Museum of Art has a collection of over 24,000 pieces of art. Its permanent collection is rich in folk art, and the museum always has prominent traveling exhibitions because of its grand reputation. Other artsy places to visit are the Alabama Ballet, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra — which performs at the Alys Stephen Center — and the Alabama Theatre, which hosts film screenings and concerts among other performances.

A historic building, the Carver Theatre, is home of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and while it’s a performance venue, one of the best traits of the Carver Theatre is that is offers free jazz lessons to any state resident of Alabama. Other popular performance venues in Birmingham are the Verizon Wireless Music Center, Fair Park Arena, and WorkPlay.

All of these venues are used during the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, once acknowledged by TIME Magazine, is an annual independent film festival that takes place in late September.

Some of Birmingham’s rich history is showcased in the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The exhibit, rich in detail and emotion, documents the struggles of the American Civil Rights Movement in the South. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is located in the city’s Civil Rights District, which also includes the 16th Street Baptist Church and Kelly Ingram Park. The Civil Rights District is a must-see in historic Birmingham.
