Troy University, a public university located in the city, adds a great element of entertainment to Troy, Alabama. By many, Troy is regarded as one of the best undergraduate and graduate universities in the Southeast. As it brings in almost 10,000 new students yearly, the small town is always hopping with energy.
 
The amenities of Troy University are great for the city as well. The Troy University Arboretum is a botanical garden as well as a nature preserve. The Troy University Arboretum is 75 acres of over 300 species of trees, swamps, and water. A nature trail runs through the grounds, and they are always open to the public.
 
Another great feature of the university is the Trojan Oaks Golf Course. The Trojan Oaks golf-course is a championship golf course that is open to the general public. The course is only nine holes, but the par for the course is 36 and the distance from the longest tee is 3,200 yards.
 
Music is also very well-represented in the city through the University. Troy University’s marching band is regarded as one of the best in the Southeast, and the school also frequently puts on jazz, brass, and other musical performances.
 
Other great destinations in the city of Troy are the Pioneer Museum of Alabama, a museum full of artifacts and exhibits that show how early settlers lived in Alabama, Bicentennial Park, a great place to enjoy the outdoors, and the Pioneer Shopping Village and Flea Market, a log cabin shopping destination.
