Grassy Key is the northernmost island in the Florida Keys included in the city limits of Marathon. Grassy Key is essentially like visiting your own private island while on vacation. Common practices on Grassy Key include lounging on a secluded beach, reading a book uninterrupted, or leisurely fishing without any competition.
 
But if it's the sport and competition of fishing you crave, there are many sport fishing companies located less than an hour's drive from the island. Sport fishing is very popular in all of Marathon and also in Key Largo and Islamorada.
 
Fish is, of course, also a popular meal on Grassy Key. For fresh and tasty seafood head to Hungry Tarpon, which has an outdoor patio to enjoy the beautiful Florida coastlines. For a non-typical meal in the Florida Keys, check out the Old Tavernier Italian Restaurant. The Old Tavernier Italian Restaurant is a fine-dining experience in the middle of the simplicity of the island that is a perfect way to end the day on Grassy Key.
 
Geographically, Grassy Key is the center of the Florida Keys, which allows visitors to enjoy the sparse nature of the island and still be able to easily escape to Key West or Key Largo, centers of activity in the Florida Keys. Key West, the southernmost island in the Keys, is known for its vibrant festivals like Fantasy Fest and Pridefest. Key Largo, the northernmost island in the Keys, is known for its water recreation, like kayaking on the Atlantic Ocean and diving on North America's only coral reef formation.
