Fairhope has a little bit of everything when it comes to scenery. The city is located near sloping plateaus and on the Mobile Bay of Alabama, looking out on the Gulf of Mexico. Fairhope was even once voted "The World’s Prettiest Village," even beating out a town in the South of France. Alabama is great to visit throughout the year because of the state’s mild climate, and Fairhope is sure to please whenever as well.
 
The area is packed with highly recommended restaurants. The Wash House, despite its shabby appearance, is upscale and regarded as one of the best restaurants in the area. Another great, upscale restaurant is the Fairhope Inn. For a lower-key atmosphere, Tamara’s Bar and Grill is very popular.
 
The biggest to-do in the area is the annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival. Usually held in March, the internationally recognized, three-day festival boasts live musical entertainment, unique cuisine, and, of course, arts and crafts.
 
The University of South Alabama, a majority graduate-level university, is located in Fairhope. Education is highly regarded in the area, and they have dedicated a museum in the area to one of its great educators. The Marietta Johnson Museum takes great care to preserve the history of Marietta Johnson. Johnson was a prominent lady in the area who established a school built on free-thinking and creativity. Her memory and the school is preserved in the Marietta Johnson Museum.
