Guadeloupe Vacation Fun Facts
Guadeloupe Rentals By Owner
Guadeloupe is comprised of several Caribbean islands – the two largest of which, Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, resemble the wings of a butterfly spread out over the warm, Caribbean waters. This is pretty symbolic of a Guadeloupe vacation – peaceful, relaxing, colorful, and serene. The scenery is wonderful and the climate is even better! For most, the first stop on their Guadeloupe vacation is on Grande-Terre. This island is comprised of flat plains, rolling hills, and sandy white (and sometimes black sand) beaches. The island itself is actually a limestone plateau, which provides for some pretty awe-inspiring coral reefs to scuba dive among. Grande-Terre is where you will find the majority of the resorts and tourist-related activities. Basse-Terre, in contrast to its neighbor, is mainly volcanic in origin. What this means for you (and your camera!) is some pretty amazing lush vegetation and captivating waterfalls. These waterfalls can be found all throughout Basse-Terre’s jungles – some of them within a short walk and others requiring a little bit more effort to view them. But Basse-Terre’s crowning jewel is the Soufriere volcano. This volcano, which is currently dormant, is a sulfuric volcano and watches over the village of Saint-Claude – a town noted for its banana and coffee plantations. For those with a daring heart, tours are available to ascend the Soufriere. Guadeloupe also has a few other, smaller islands that are "must sees" during your Guadeloupe vacation rental. Terre-de-Haut is a tiny little island that you can explore on foot in less than a day. Pigeon Island is home to an underwater Jacques Cousteau statue that is just begging for a visit. And Petite-Terre offers a glimpse into the Caribbean’s past, with its uninhabited and untamed lands. So whether you are sipping on some of the local Guadeloupe rum or hiding behind the walls of Fort Louis Delgres, there is adventure and excitement to be found among the islands of Guadeloupe. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
