The charming Spanish cobblestone streets in the town date all the way back to the 16th century and the historic walls surrounding the city were once part of the defensive forts located around the city. This forest is home to the most famous peak on the island, El Yunque. Culebra is home to several secluded beaches and is a popular destination for scuba divers due to the many reefs around the area. And Puerto Rico is also home to several nature reserves. President Teddy Roosevelt established what is now one of the oldest bird sanctuaries in United States territory. If you’re lucky, you might spot a Culebra Island Giant Anole (Anolis roosevelti), a virtually extinct lizard who is named after President Roosevelt. The sanctuaries are also home to many different species of turtles and sea birds who return to the reserve year after year.
