Tuscaloosa is best known as the home of the University of Alabama. Thus, it is viewed as a college town. Because of this, nightlife is one of the main appeals of Tuscaloosa. Some of the popular bars, located on what is referred to as "the strip," are Egans, 4th and 23rd, and Innisfree Irish Pub. The Crimson Tide, the University of Alabama’s mascot, is well-represented throughout the city. The Waysider, a southern joint famous for its biscuits and gravy and grits, is filled to the brim with Crimson Tide gear. And all of the bars on the strip become even more popular during football season, and are packed with Crimson Tide fans wearing the color crimson, of course. For a calmer atmosphere though, there are many famous restaurants to visit. There’s the upscale Cypress Inn, the dive-y steakhouse, Nicks in the Sticks, and for those who’ve retreated to the South for some bar-be-que, there’s the Dreamland Drive-Inn Bar-B-Que. There are a couple museums to visit while in the area. Tuscaloosa, Alabama is the home to the Alabama Museum of Natural History, the Jones Archaeological Museum, and the Westervelt Warner Museum of American Art. There are also a couple of performing arts venues in the city. The majority are affiliated with the University of Alabama, but those that aren’t are the String Quartet Society of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, and the Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre. Like any college town, Tuscaloosa is best visited and enjoyed during the college football season. The buzz and excitement of the mild fall weather certainly add to this college town’s appeal. Don’t miss a Crimson Tide football game! Tuscaloosa Area Map for Your Vacation Planning |
