Homer Rentals By Owner
A popular saying in Homer, Alaska is that they are a "quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem." And, as Homer is located on the Kenai Peninsula, there are tons of seas on which to fish and enjoy life and a drink. The most popular fishing spot is the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon. Every spring, the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon is re-stocked with salmon from a local hatchery. The Homer Boat Harbor is located on a natural landmark of the city, the Homer Spit. The Homer Spit is four and a half mile long piece of land that juts out into the Kachemak Bay. This area is always jammed pack full of both commercial and private boats during the summer season. Summer is the best time to visit Homer. Summers in Alaska are cool and pleasant, and that is why its cities are frequented the most during mid-May to mid-September. Also, located down on the Homer Spit, is the Salty Dawg Saloon. Originating from an original 19th century shack, the Salty Dawg Saloon has been many things: a post office, a railroad station, and a coal mining office. It is now a bar that is known for the thousands of signed dollar bills tacked up on its walls. While headed down to the Homer Spit, you’ll travel on the longest road that leads into ocean waters in the world. The 10 to 15 mile stretch is great for whale-watching. All of Homer is great for wildlife viewing. Just like the rest of Alaska, Homer is a great home to many animals because of its wonderfully preserved and must-see mountains and forests. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
