Ketchikan Rentals By Owner

Known as "The Salmon Capital of the World," Ketchikan, Alaska’s main draw is its fishing industry. The city is named after Ketchikan Creek that runs through the middle of town and is filled with salmon. Creek Street, that overlooks Ketchikan Creek, is a historic boardwalk that is great tourist attraction. The street is the home of a collection of museums, shops, and historic homes.

An interesting fact about Ketchikan is that it is the home to the world’s greatest amount of totem poles. They are located in three different places in the city, the Saxman Village, Totem Bight, and the Totem Heritage Center.

There are many ways to see the sights of Ketchikan. Guided tours are given on both land and water. Two of the most popular ways to see the city are through a harbor cruise and on a "flightseeing" float plane. There are also walking tours that take you through the streets of Ketchikan and show you where the popular restaurants and shops arelocated. The sights guaranteed to be covered on any tour of Ketchikan are the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary, the George Inlet Cannery, and the Misty Fiords National Monument.

Like the rest of Alaska, the most popular time to visit the city is during the summer months when it will be hopping with cruise ship traffic, but winter is also a great time to visit. The Aurora Borealis, or more commonly, the Northern Lights, take place during the winter months. The Northern Lights are essentially fluorescent lights that appear to be dancing in the night sky like ribbons, and their existence alone make Ketchikan a great place to visit.
