The Sitgreaves National Forest’s two most popular attractions are the Mogollon Rim and the eight cold water lakes, which are, of course, more than valued out in the desert. The Mogollon Rim is a magnificent mountain that abruptly ends and gives visitors a great view from 7,600 feet. The Rim extends for 200 miles.
 
While visiting the Rim, watch out for the Mexican Wolf population that is revered and protected in the park. The gray wolves have a characteristic howl that the mountains are happy to house once again.
 
In the lakes throughout Heber-Overgaard, Arizona, fishing is very popular. The three most popular fish in the lakes are arctic grayling, brook trout, and rainbow trout. Bird-watching is very popular in the great state of Arizona. The Sitgreaves National Park is home to many songbirds and waterfowl.
 
During August, in the near-by city of Bisbee, they hold the annual Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival, which brings bird-watchers from all over into the area. Other wildlife in the area are antelope, elk and deer, which provide great opportunity for hunting-lovers and animal watchers alike.
 
Heber-Overgaard is just a short, two-hour drive from the capital city of Phoenix, so if you want to get away from the quiet night for the evening, Phoenix is sure to entertain.
