The food and wine of Whidbey Island are revered. Great places to visit on the island are the many popular farmers markets. The South Whidbey Tilth Farmers Market prides itself on the quality of its goods, mainly its organic produce, and also provides local music, crafts, and children’s activities. The annual Whidbey Island Farm Tour , which takes place in October, is a great way to learn about the produce that fills the farmers markets.
 
The farmers market is also a great place to try and buy the local wine . Considered one of the best producers of wine in the nation, Whidbey Island is home to many vineyards and tasting rooms. To go along with the great wine, there are many fine dining restaurants on the island. One of the most popular foods served in the restaurant is the mussel, and every year Whidbey Island takes the chance to honor mussels in a popular festival. The festival features, of course, mussels and other great food, live entertainment, and a popular mussel eating contest that always begins with the words, "munch mussels."
 
And with the island being a hop, skip, and a jump away from Seattle, while on vacation you can enjoy the laid-back quality of island living and city life simultaneously.
