Oscoda Vacation Rentals and Lodging

Oscoda, Michigan was first populated by lumberjacks, and the Lumberman’s Monument pays tribute to the city’s heritage. The 14-foot bronze statue sits in the Huron-Manistee National Forest at the base of the Au Sable River. The National Park is opened year-round and is free of charge. The pathway through the park, which leads to the Lumberman’s Monument, has many plaques along the way that teach visitors about logging history. Oscoda is actually thought to be the home of Paul Bunyan.

The area also takes great measures to preserve its Native American roots. Every summer, Oscoda holds the Gagaguwon Powwow . This tradition honors the area’s first settlers and celebrates Native American culture and arts. These festivities include arts and crafts, foods, and dancing.

Oscoda also places great importance on its natural treasures. Many of the great things to do in the area are enhanced greatly by nature and the Michigan scenery . The nearby Au Sable River is great for kayaking, canoeing, and tubing. Fishing is also huge in the area. Some people fly-fish while they wade in the water, while other join one of the many chartered fishing tours that go out and search for trout and salmon.

In the summer, there are many trails that hikers love to frequent. Some trails are even used for horseback riding.

In the winter, the mountains turn into a snow-covered playground for skiers. Cross-country skiing and snow-mobiling are popular in the area because of Michigan’s heavy snowfall that happens early and later in the ski season.

Because of its preservation and appreciation of history and nature, Oscoda makes a great vacation destination throughout the year.
